The 2023 Queensland Master Tree Growers Program

Event description

The 2023 Queensland Master Tree Growers Program is a 8-day course for landholders interested in managing trees for conservation and profit. The course will be held in the Woodworks Museum in Gympie and with field trips to the surrounding area, and will cover a wide range of topics, including: 

  • Mastering trees on farms 
  • Farm trees for conservation and profit 
  • Theory behind inventory plots and forest products 
  • Establishing inventory plots 
  • Plantation harvesting and products
  • Gundiah native and plantation forests 
  • DTM Timbers at Tiaro 
  • Lucas mill demonstration at Cedar Pocket 
  • Bob’s mill demonstration at Cedar Pocket 
  • Integrating trees into rural landscapes 
  • Shaping future landscapes 

The course will be delivered by a team of experienced trainers, who will use a variety of teaching methods, including lectures, field trips, and group discussions. The course is also designed to be interactive, with plenty of opportunities for participants to ask questions and share their experiences.

Event schedule

The itinerary for the course is as follows: 

  • Day 1: Introduction to the program, mastering trees on farms, and bus trip to a plantation. Rowan will be the facilitator for this day. [Same as your itinerary] 
  • Day 2: Farm trees for conservation and profit, and bus trip to a plantation. Rowan will be the facilitator for this day. [Same as your itinerary]
  • Day 3: Theory behind inventory plots and forest products, bus trip to plantations, and establish inventory plots. PFSQ will be the facilitator for this day. 
  • Day 4: Plantation harvesting and products, bus trip to plantations. PFSQ will be the facilitator for this day. 
  • Day 5: Gundiah native and plantation forests, DTM Timbers at Tiaro. PFSQ will be the facilitator for this day. 
  • Day 6: Lucas mill demonstration at Cedar Pocket, Bob’s mill demonstration at Cedar Pocket. PFSQ will be the facilitator for this day. 
  • Day 7: Integrating trees into rural landscapes, shaping future landscapes. Rowan will be the facilitator for this day. 

The course is free , which includes tuition, meals, and field trips.

The 2023 Queensland Master Tree Growers Program is a valuable opportunity for landholders to learn about the many benefits of planting and managing trees. The course will provide participants with the knowledge and skills they need to manage, and profit from trees. 

In addition to the course content, the program also offers a number of other benefits to participants, including: 

  • Networking opportunities with other landholders 
  • Access to technical support and advice 
  • The opportunity to be involved in research and development projects 

There will be limited seats available as we will be traversing the area by bus to look at various aspects of plantation forestry.
